Best starting areas for
Students
Daan, Wenshan and Shilin depend on the campus. Avoid paying Daan prices when the university is elsewhere.
Remote workers
Wanhua, Wenshan, Beitou and selected New Taipei-border areas can reduce cost when central commuting is occasional.
Newcomers
Zhongshan or Daan is easy to navigate; Wanhua or Wenshan can be better value once you understand the MRT.
Tech professionals
Neihu access should drive the search; a central room can still mean a frustrating commute.
591 room and suite samples
Current 591 examples include Beitou around NT$9,888, Wanhua NT$12,000, Neihu NT$12,800, Wenshan/Jingmei NT$13,500, Xinyi NT$13,800 and Daan/Zhongxiao Fuxing NT$24,800.
Because the category mixes room and suite configurations, store bathroom, kitchen and occupancy status rather than treating every listing as one product.
MRT fare and route time
Taipei Metro single-journey fares currently run roughly NT$20–NT$65 by distance. Use current fare and travel-time tools, showing any pass or cashback recommendation separately.
Check walking distance, transfers, rain exposure and the real campus or office route.
Two-month deposit and electricity rules
Official consumer guidance states that a residential rental deposit may not exceed two months’ rent when the relevant framework applies. Do not relabel excess as another deposit.
Electricity charges should follow the applicable standard-contract and billing-period rules. Verify actual usage or the permitted total and reject unexplained high per-kWh charges.
Suite, room and older-building checks
For older walk-ups and top-floor rooms, inspect elevator, heat, leakage, typhoon exposure, ventilation, dehumidification, mold, garbage and actual ping area.
Confirm furniture, management, utilities and minimum stay.
Taipei rental and payment risks
A low rent can be offset by electricity or a different room type.
- Deposit exceeds the applicable two-month maximum.
- Per-kWh electricity charge is unexplained.
- Room category hides a private suite or partition.
- Landlord or sublessor identity is unclear.
- No written condition record.
- Visible water intrusion or mold is not disclosed.

- Electricity charging method is written and compliant.
- I tested the MRT commute.
- I checked elevator, top-floor, leak and mold issues.
- I verified owner or sublet authority.
- I know management and utility fees.
- I retained payment and condition evidence.
