Cheap Metro, expensive commute time

Mexico City’s Metro remains unusually inexpensive at MXN 5 per trip. Include Metro, Metrobús, RTP, trolleybus, Cablebús, transfers and the final walk when comparing rooms.

Test the route at peak time and compare a direct corridor with a cheaper room requiring two complicated transfers.

Documented terms without an invented deposit cap

Mexico City residential leases should be documented in writing. The Civil Code framework expects key terms such as rent and any deposit or guarantee to appear in the contract.

Do not state that the legal deposit is one month. One month may be common market practice, but a simple current universal statutory ceiling was not identified. Separate first rent, refundable deposit, rent in advance, guarantor or póliza jurídica, agency charges and utilities.

Furnished rooms and minimum stays

Furnished rooms are common in newcomer and international inventory. Managed rooms can require two months or more while local roomshares may be longer-term.

Verify bed, desk, internet, electricity, water, gas, cleaning, laundry, building rules, minimum stay and the exact price for your dates.

Mexico City rental scam patterns

Federal security authorities warn about false rental listings on social networks. Do not send identity or payment information merely to reserve an unverified room.
